When Is the Right Time to Start Yoga?
The honest answer — and a two-minute practice to begin right now
When Is the Right Time to Start Yoga?
The short answer? Right now. Here's why.
One of the best things about yoga is that a meaningful practice is immediately available to you. Yoga meets you as you are, here and now. There are no prerequisites — no waiting until life settles down, until you're older, or until you're more flexible.
Yoga doesn't need you to:
take expensive retreats
have an extensive knowledge of philosophy
touch your forehead to your knees
own the "right" clothes or mat
It's here for you right now — a "walk right in, the door is wide open" invitation to all of us.
Beginning can feel intimidating, but think of yoga as a really good friend who gets you — your experiences, your feelings, your desires. And this friend is wise. It can meet your energy, your fatigue, your restlessness, or your wish to simply be steady. Yoga scales up or down for you, every day, in every season.
So if you've been thinking about starting — or restarting — why not begin today?
Try this two-minute "pause" practice
Close your eyes and feel your breath for a minute.
Then ask yourself: How do I feel, right now?
Take another minute to notice how your body and breath feel — the simple experience of being you, in your body.
When you're ready, open your eyes, carrying a sense of what it feels like to be you, right now.
That's it. You just practiced.
